Be still my Soul

Well as many of you know it's just been one of those years... and luckily it's almost October. I was sitting in RS (I know somewhat of a shocker with my wild child these days...) and started singing the opening hymn with everyone else. All of the sudden the words of the hymn spoke to me and I knew it was an answer for the things I have been fasting and praying for:

Be still, my soul: The Lord is on thy side; With patience bear thy cross of grief or pain.Leave to thy God to order and provide; In ev’ry change he faithful will remain. Be still, my soul: Thy best, thy heav’nly Friend Thru thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: Thy God doth undertake To guide the future as he has the past. Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake; All now mysterious shall be bright at last. Be still, my soul: The waves and winds still know His voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.

I've often had hymn touch me more than most others, but today, today it was my little miracle.

PS I also got called to be a nursey leader and the 8 year old cub scout assistant today.... any good ideas out there...

Isn't it amazing how music can speak to us. Thanks for the great post.

So you got two callings in one day? crazy.
What scouts is that? We used to be the Webelos leader but I can't remember how old they were. That was a fun calling..doing experiments, going swimming, making smores, going to the park to work out.
More good luck on the Nursery side.. how many kids on in Nursery. I just hope it's not like ours with 12 boys and 1 girl (and that's a split nursery)

I just love the hymns: they have such power. I'm grateful that music is such an integral part of our worship services.

Bruce R. McConkie wrote the music ws the language of the gods. They do have ways of touching our souls and answering prayers that bring us peace and comfort. I'm glad you had your little miracle today.

Today you have received two of the best callings in the church. Or two of the worst depending on what you do with them. I could write an epistle on Nursery. Study and use the new nursery manual. It is wonderful. Be sure to read, absorb and apply the teaching tips.
I'd be happy to email you things I have learned about nursery that make it a most joyous and rewarding calling.
Of course there could be another epistle on cub scouting. Eight year old boys are eager and parents are intimidated. Get trained, it makes a world of difference. Do the fast start online training and youth protection training. Take advantage of whatever district training is available. Remember the program is for the boy (not the leaders) and really does prepare him for future priesthood assignments.

You will be GREAT in both callings.

Joseph and I are actually the wolf leaders in our ward(the 8 year olds). Like my mom said get the training, it helps. the program guides are wonderful too. Most importantly keep your boys in mind when planning. Hopefully scouting is better set up in your area and records were kept! Feel free to email me!

You guys have had some tough times, huh! I'm so glad you were able to be in RS to hear that song. It's definitely one of my favorites, too!

Hang in there- I believe the Lord knows what we need to gain from our trials, it's just a matter of us figuring that out and not getting too frustrated in the process :) You guys are awesome!! Miss you tons.

KATIE! I hope you've had a Happy Birthday!!!!! Love that hymn. I know what you mean with hymns. Sometimes I start singing and then I can't even finish cause of the ball in my throat. Hm... ideas for nursery, use the friend magazine pictures and cutouts online they really work. :)

Check out www.sugardoodle.net! They have some awesome ideas for nursery. Tom and I used some from there every week we were in charge of the lesson. It's just an all around awesome sight for ideas for church callings.

Good Luck! I love Nursery!

so, guess what? I got the nursery calling too! just when I thought I might be able to have Alina in a class so I could make it through an entire relief society-maybe in the next life! but each week, as I prepare the simple but beautiful lesson, I'm reminded of the Lord's love for his little children. It helps put things in perspective...and lots of times I need perspective! wishing you were here...

Grateful for music too! It has given me answers, promptings, or solace many times! I know roundtables are sometimes hard to get to, but they often have tons of information that you can use to easily plan your meetings and pack meetings. Love cub scouting!! (and the nursery too!)
